Portfolio
Visual Arts Comprehensive I-This course is the per-requisite for all other art courses and combines appreciation, art history, and art production.
Drawing I- Drawing is the foundation for other art forms and students develop perception skills and technique as they work on observational drawings, perspective, figure drawings, portrait drawing, landscape, abstracts and non-objective works.
Drawing II-This course or painting can be taken before AP or in place of it. Students continue to develop skills given to more artistic license on some problem and working more in depth.
Painting- Pre-requisite Drawing I- This course introduces students to transparent watercolor, acrylic, and water soluble oils. Various techniques and subjects are covered.
Sculpture- Students use additive, subtractive and modeling methods to create works in plaster, wire, paper mache, found objects, and other materials to develop their skills creating relief work and sculpture in the round. A wide range of subject matter is explored including animals, figures, portraits, and abstract.
Visual Arts II- Applied Design- Design is applied to create projects such as logo design, packaging , ad design, linoleum block printing, embossing, pattern design, and lettering.
Dark Room Photography- Black and white 35 mm film is used and developed by students/ a traditional dark room setting. ( 35mm manual camera desirable.) Pre-requisites- Visual Arts I and another art course- seniors only.
Pottery I- Pinch, coil, slab and wheel thrown methods are introduced in this course. Students also study pottery forms of other cultures, vocabulary and glazing techniques.
Pottery II- Students create more technically challenging pieces and are able to do more independent projects and further develop their hand-building and /or wheel throwing skills.
AP Drawing Portfolio- All students planning a career in visual arts are encouraged to take this course which culminates in an AP test which consists of submitting a minimum of 24 drawings to the AP board in May for college credit. This is a rigorous class for juniors and students who wish to to take must submit a portfolio for review.
